This therapy dog training is hard!!

I think I underestimated just how hard it would be to train as a therapy dog.  I thought I’d just go and visit people, act all cute and get some treats and loving.  But oh no, mum’s got this idea that on top of everything else she’s got to train me not to jump up on anyone – doh!

Does she not realise I’m a Beardie, has she never heard of the Beardie bounce?  We’re designed to bound around, it’s in our nature…..

I get so excited when I hear Dad come home from work each day, I know the sound of the garage door now….as soon as I hear it I go rushing to the back door to see if he’s there.

When's Dad coming home?

When he comes in I have to try really hard not to jump up on him or he won’t fuss me.  My main problem is my butt, it won’t stop moving around, it makes sitting really hard.  I think my wagging tail is what causes the excessive butt movement and I have absolutely no control over my tail…..I hope they realise just how much effort I’m putting into this, I so want to be a therapy dog, just like my virtual doggy buddies Spike and Dru, who’ve just started their therapy dog visits…..

Hey Snoopy thanks for the link and don’t worry, not jumping is so hard for Spike and Dru too! A little secret? They haven’t mastered it and they still passed their test. Part of it is our fault because we let them jump on us because we love it. I love the video of your exuberance! Tell Mum and Dad it’s part of your charm!

Snoopy, Dude! Tell your Peeps that getting a Beardie puppy to stop wiggling defies the laws of nature! But it can happen … I was at a show once when I was about 6-months old and I was hopping and bopping all over the place, then this really old woman came up to me in a wheel chair. and I instantly knew I needed to be gentle with her. I put my adorable Beardie head in her lap and let her pet me, then I ran off and knocked down some kid … it averages out! hahaha! You’re gonna be a super therapy doggie. It is a very honorable career and we’re rooting for you!!! Your Beardie Bud, Turner.

      Hey Turner buddy,

You see, I knew there must be a genetic reason I couldn’t stop wiggling…..I’m impressed you were on your best behaviour with the person in a wheelchair and you were just a little pup! Cool!

Hey, how was your photo shoot yesterday with Shaggy Dog? I missed you while you were hob-nobbing in Hollywood….

      Your Beardie Bud,
      Snoopy :)

Snoopy Dog, if I had thumbs, I could prolly figure out how to send you the picture of me being sweet to the lady at the show!

I hate to brag, but I kinda ROCKED my photo shoot! I was very patient and waited THREE whole hours before I got to smile for the camera. I was such a good Beardie, I got chosen for the ad over Fancy-pants Shaggy Dog! That sure was a surprise to my Mum, but I had a feeling :}}} My finale was to knock over the photographer and give her tons of my special kisses! Sweet!!!

        • Snoopy says:

NO WAY TURNER!! I was already impressed you sent me a xmas card, now I’m going to have to put it in a frame! You got picked over Shaggy Dog, woohoo!! What did Mister Dickens say?

I so can’t wait to see the pics…….

You’re a STAR! High five for Turner, woohoo!
          :)

If only you could see me now … my topknot is back in its proper place and I rubbed up against some black oily gunk, but just on my white shawl! At the end of the day, Snoop, I’m just a happy Beardie like you!!!

            • Snoopy says:

Hey Turner, you got it, happy is what it’s all about, my motto is ‘just having fun’ :) I’m thinking the gunky stuff today might be you rebelling against all the fluffing from yesterday? Tee hee

Snoopy, Tell your mum to keep up the good work. It will be well worth it in the end. I want to start your mom’s (Snickers) training for therapy work this next year. She, like most beardies , is very sensitive to a persons emotions, and feelings. When I bkoke my leg a while back, she was Very aware of my pain and was so careful not to bump my leg. What a beautiful way of sharing the love and joy our beardies bring to us. You can do this Snoopy ! Love, Jean.

    • Snoopy says:

      Hi Jean,

That would be cool if Snickers did some therapy work too, mum thinks I would be great at it as I love saying hi to everyone, when I was really little if the people on the other side of the road didn’t come over to say hello I would cry…..

Yep, mum thinks it would be great to share me with lots of other people as I make her smile all the time, well of course I do, it’s my job, plus I’m so cute how can she not smile at me? tee hee :)
