It’s rude to lick your lips when saying Hi to a Cat!!

Last Friday was my first visit as a Therapy Dog – I was super excited….. we were going to visit some people in a local retirement home.

I was all groomed nicely for the occasion…..

Stop fussing Mum - I think I'm smart enough now - let's go!!

When we arrived we met the other members of the Furry Friends Team.  There were 2 Bernese Mountain Dogs, a Borzoi, and a Black Lab Mix.  We all got on really well.  Oh, I nearly forgot – there was also a CAT!

So, here’s the thing – we all said our hello’s before going in and I did really well, even going nose to nose with the Cat.  After a little while inside I started to think a little too much about where the Cat might be and although I was still being good and letting people pet me I was looking under the table for the Cat.

I so enjoyed the visit and made lots of new friends, some of the people were telling Mum and I about the Dogs that they used to have.  It was really fun.

As we were leaving I saw the Cat and as we got closer I got busted for ‘licking my lips!!’ – Mum said it’s really impolite to do that as you approach a Cat, Huh?  The only other time I ever do that is if Mum asks me if I want my Dinner!!  Can’t imagine what the connection is?

Mum’s really hoping that it works out in this Team as I’m in pretty close proximity to the Cat – I should note, I wasn’t the only Dog interested in the Cat, yeah, the others probably didn’t get caught licking their lips though!!  Rookie mistake!! :)

I think our next visit is to a different centre where we go room to room to say Hello on our own – i.e. I won’t be with any Cats!  Doh!! :)

This is me after the visit - I was pooped - probably best not to mention what I was dreaming about!! :)

Despite my little bit of Mischief slip up Mum said she was really proud of me – yay!! :)

  2. I think you did a great job, Snoopy! Licking your lips is nothing compared to the jumping and fussing I would have done! I think you contained yourself very well. :) (That cat must have felt VERY outnumbered! LOL)

    • Hi Daisy,

Yeah, luckily for the Cat he was Cool as a Cucumber – I don’t think he even realized that we all wanted to ‘play’ with him!! :)

      Have a fun weekend buddy,

      Snoops :)

  3. We are all so proud of you Snoopy! Next time just remember not to get caught licking your lips! Definitely a rookie mistake! BOL!

Sometimes I think I’m all grown up and then I do a Rookie mistake and realize I still have a bit to learn!! Tee Hee :)

      Wags to all,

      Snoops :)

  4. Hi Pal!!

I don’t think you did anything wrong at all!!!! I checked with my brother, Cody (who happens to be a cat) and he said in the cat world that licking one’s lips when looking at them just means that you want to give them a “kiss”….you and I KNOW better, but let the cats continue to think that!

Regardless, you didn’t do anything wrong my friend!

    • Hey Dakota,

Thanks for your support buddy – ok, so here’s the question – how can you live with a CAT 24/7 and not think about Dinner? Just asking, cos I thought about Dinner after only a short time….. :) Tee Hee

Funny that Cody thinks you want to give him a kiss – I’m sure you do….. :)

      Wags to all,

      Snoops :)

  5. Hey good for you on your first official visit. great job. I bet the people loved you? Never mind the cat, they aren’t worth getting in trouble for. Torrey and I TRY, to ignore them whenever possible.

  9. Don’t worry, Snoopy! We all make slip-ups now and then. I’m glad you had a successful first day, though! Swift and Kool could never have behaved as well as you did around a cat.

  13. Oh, Snoopy. I KNOW what you mean. Even though I have kittehs living here with me, those that are not are just waiting for some lip lickin’ from me. What are we to do? Mom says we’re working on it….

  15. LOL. That cat took every ounce of your energy to resist.

Remember, when there’s a cat involved, always think of cute puppies and fat juicy bones… getting fixated to Mr. Whiskers is always a bad thing. ^_^

Glad you survived your first therapy visit.

If you’re asking me I don’t think there’s anything wrong with licking your lips, but apparently Mum has a different view!! Doh!!

      Snoops :)

  17. Hey snoopy, at least you only licked your lips, we sometimes try to lick the cat( sure we do) and mom gets made. Maybe its cause we have to try to catch the cat first…hehehehe
