Monday Mischief – My School Visit

The other day I told you about the busy week I was having with therapy visits and how on Thursday I was going to a High School.

Mum got all mixed up and actually we were going to a community college, not a high school.

Colleges are WAY bigger, this one is De Anza College in Cupertino and there are about 20,000 students who attend.

They had arranged an event called Stress Town to help teach the students about different ways to manage stress.

It was outdoors on the grass area and luckily it was a nice cool day, there were about 6 of us therapy dogs who were there to show the students how animals can help with stress management.

Most of my therapy visits are to retirement or nursing homes and I usually just sit next to the person and let them pet my back or my head.

For this visit I had a different plan – Which really surprised my Mum! There was Mum thinking I couldn’t incorporate a little mischief into my therapy visit! Tee Hee

So this is how I started off the session, lying down getting petted

So this is how I started off the session, lying down getting petted

There were hundreds of students who came over – so I let them all pet me at the same time!

Once I had an audience I decided I'd roll around on the grass and make them laugh! I kept doing it and they loved it! :)

Sometimes you couldn't even tell where my head was cos my fur was all over the place! :)

Some of the students stayed and played with me for ages!

Mum said we should stay hydrated so I got myself a bottle of water! I even did my party trick for the students and took the lid off in less than a minute! :)

We were there for 3 hours, so I slept all the way home in the car – It’s hard work being a clown you know!

We heard the next day that the college really enjoyed our visit and would like us to do more visits because the students loved us!  Me thinks I’m gonna have plenty of time to teach the students mischief!  Tee Hee

Guess what, I just discovered, my fluffy self even got posted onto their facebook page!  Woohoo!! :)

Haha – One thing I love about mischief is it’s often so hard to tell if it’s really mischief! :)

      Big wags,

      Snoops :)

  3. You’re like a real star, Snoops! First, you got everyone petting you to your hearts content, then you make their Facebook page! Good show! Did your Mum ever make a video of you taking off the water bottle cover? I’d like to see that!

Yep my Mum wishes they’d done that when she was at college/school too, I don’t think at that time anyone even thought about it – everyone had lots of fun, it was great :)

      Wags to all,

      Snoops :)

  6. Snoopy, I think you’ve got the best job in the world – getting all those loves. And you get to teach them mischief besides.

Yep, I think it’s a newer concept, us dogs are helping relieve stress everywhere, I even heard recently that therapy dogs are assisting passengers and staff at LAX airport now!

      Hope you’re having a fun day :)

  8. I think you did a wonderful job and it was the students who did the mischief… and mischief that made them laugh and relax! That’s the best kind.

Oh I sure was pooped, most of the time in the car I like to look out the back window but I just lay down and slept the whole way back! You’re right about being a ham, I just can’t help myself, especially if I have an audience! Tee Hee

      Big wags,

      Snoops :)

  21. Snoopy, that is so neat that you were helping the kids learn to control stress. I have three boys that are in college and they need stress control. I know a visit from you would be just what the doctor ordered.

I like to have friends over that helps my stress. http://www.dawsondogs.com/blog/2013/5/Meet-Lexi-My-Friend

    • Hi Missy,

Ooooh I’d love to hang out with your boys – are they good at giving me loads of attention? Do they need mischief lessons too? :)

      Wags to all

      Snoops :)

  22. Nice work, Snoopy! I’m not surprised that everybody loved you. Your furs are so long and fluffy, people could pet you forever. Rolling around is a good trick. When Mom tries to teach me to roll over, I turn to stone.

My mom’s SBA tried to set up a similar “dog day” to help students de-stress during finals… but it was apparently against building codes to have them inside. No one thought to host it outside….

  32. What a neat therapy visit Snoopy. So cool that your mum brought you to help de-stress the college kids. As for the laying down thing and rolling over, Toby did that once at a therapy visit, but he was a little too “happy” to be there, if you get my drift, and boy was I embarrassed and I made him stand right up. Glad you didn’t pull anything like THAT on your mum. :-)
