Monday Mischief – Coconut Oil – I’m nuts about it!

My Mum started to become obsessed with Coconut Oil a little while ago.  It all got so extreme she even put it on her legs one day – that was the moment I also became obsessed with it!

I started sniffing her legs, then I started licking her legs!  She wasn’t too happy with that so she moved away, but I wanted more and was following her around the house!  Tee Hee

She decided to let me have a little bit of my own out of the jar – The rest is history!

Every morning after Mum gets out of the shower – she’s confronted with this face – I do my best puppy eyes!

"Is it time for the Coconut Oil now Mum?"

“Is it time for the Coconut Oil now Mum?”

Mum thinks it’s mischief, but I know that Coconut Oil is good for you, so I’m actually just being healthy, right?!

Mum keeps a special jar just for me now, but she thinks it’s kind of messy to give it to me, so she came up with a plan!

She saved this container that used to contain frozen garlic in it, as she wanted to see if you could freeze coconut oil – she left a couple of pieces of garlic in the tray as she thought I’d like that too

A little while back we heard from My Brown Newfies that you could buy Coconut Oil in bulk at a great price in Costco!

Our addiction is so bad now she has to buy in bulk! Tee Hee

Our addiction is so bad now we get a big jar! Tee Hee

Simply spread it out into the container

Simply spread the coconut oil out into the container

It freezes pretty fast, we took it back out after a few hours and it was ready!

It freezes pretty fast, we took it back out after a few hours and it was ready!

“Are you gonna hand it over Mum, or just keep taking pictures?”

“Last picture Mum, I’ll give you a smile if we can get on with testing out the coconut ice!”

Finally Mum stopped HER mischief and handed over the delicacy!  I was a little suspicious as I am with anything new, but I loved it AND there was no mess!!

I’m just inspecting it first before I eat it! :)

Do you eat Coconut oil too?  I can’t get enough of it, but needless to say Mum rations it!  Doh! :)

  1. Those coconutty ice cubes sounds delicious, Snoopy! I haven’t tried it…yet ;)
Remy recently posted..My Most Favorite Flea :)My Profile

  2. You eat it? we use it to fry food everyday. I can’t imagine eating it.

I have no mischief from my turtles today, only short story.

    • Hi Novroz,

You mean the turtles were super clever and didn’t get caught doing the mischief? Tee Hee

Yep, my Mum fries with it too, but now I have my own separate stash in the freezer! :)

      Have a fun day,

      Snoops :)

  3. We’re going to tell mom about freezing the coconut oil! What a great idea!
Dogs N Pawz recently posted..Black and White Sunday: Phe and ScoutMy Profile

    • Hi Guys,

I love it frozen or un-frozen, but it sure is handy for Mum just to plop it out of the container for me and I don’t get it all over my fur or the floor! :)

      Big wags,

      Snoops :)

  4. Slimdoggy says:

Our dogs love to lick lotion off our legs…this would be a good way to kill two birds. Great idea the little frozen Popsicles too.

    • Hi Slimdoggy,

The leg licking is my favorite way to have my coconut treat, but Mum gets all funny about that, so I think the popsicles are a great compromise! :)

      Snoops :)

  5. I need a big jar like that too! I didn’t think we would go through it so fast, now I have to buy 2 jars!

I was just wondering the other day if it would freeze well! I was thinking of making some coconut/fruit frozen treat!

Sherman and Leroy just love coconut oil and every time I use it on my face or legs they are following me around everywhere!

    • Haha Jen,

I can imagine the scene as Leroy and Sherman are following you around the house, once I get the scent it’s hard for Mum to distract me! :)

You sure did go through your jar fast! But then Leroy and Sherman are much bigger than me! :)

      Wags to all,

      Snoops :)

  6. Oh wow, that’s such a great idea!

Elka does like coconut oil as well. When I use it on her food, I tend to zap it in the microwave first so that it’s liquid, and actually coats the food. Otherwise, she’ll just eat the wad of it off the top and beg for more!
Jen recently posted..The ONE thingMy Profile

    • Hi Jen,

Oooh Elka has discovered the yummy coconut oil too! :) My Mum thought about melting it and putting it on my food, but she read somewhere that if you put it in the microwave it looses it’s benefits (She’s no expert, so has no idea if that’s true) – plus when she’s using and I want it, it’s not usually my meal time :)

      Have a fun day,

      Snoops :)

  7. Interesting idea! The dogs have never tried coconut oil, but for the smell factor, at least, it has got to be better than fish oil!

    • Oh, I forgot to say–good job on always keeping Snoopy’s grooming in tip-top shape! I saw a bearded collie at the farmers market this weekend, and her coat was deplorable.
Champ’s mom recently posted..Love is CruelMy Profile

      • Hi Champ’s Mom,

My Mum says thanks so much, you’re very sweet! She did a lot of research about taking care of my coat before deciding on my breed, and was sure she had the time and inclination to take care of it, it’s not too bad if you keep on top of it, but you really do need to keep on top of it! Given that I’m a therapy dog, it’s even more important that I look and smell my best! :)

        Have a fun day,

        Snoops :)

    • Hi Champ’s Mom,

That’s a good point, it’s gotta be a more preferable smell than fish oil! :)

      Wags to all,

      Snoops :)

  8. Never thought of freezing the coconut oil… mommy uses it for her curly hair!! And for all the other Shih Tzu’s hair as it makes it nice and soft & silky when we get our blow outs! Will definitely have to try and freeze it for summer snacks!!
Christine and Riley recently posted..Monday Mischief 6/10 – Ninja & Roxy (Flashback)My Profile

    • Hi Christine and Riley,

Oooh – your Mom and the Shih Tzu’s have it on their hair – I’d sure be sniffing and licking everyone’s hair if I came over to your house! :) Love that you have blow outs! I usually just let the wind dry my hair after a bath as we go for a walk, it dries super fast, but if Mum’s using the hairdryer I like to lie on the tiles by her and get a few blasts of warm air on me! :)

      Have a fun day,

      Snoops :)

  9. I have never tried it, not sure exactly why I would need to eat it. Mom has coconut oil lotion, that I know. Looks like you sure love it, though!
emma recently posted..Emma’s Taste Test | GBGV | Mischief MondayMy Profile

    • Hi Emma,

Oh yes I sure do love it! So apparently there are health benefits, but frankly I don’t care about that, I just love the taste! Yum yum! :)

      Wags to all,

      Snoops :)

  10. OMD…I have never had coconut oil , but I must try some! I know mom has some in the cabinet…maybe I should sneak in there and try it out?!?!

Higgins recently posted..Chihuahua Behaving BadlyMy Profile

    • Hey Higgins,

What do you mean you’ve never had Coconut oil? You’re missing out buddy! My Mum was like yours and tried to keep it all to herself until I swooped in and licked it off her legs! You’ve got my vote for sneaking in the cupboard, but you probably guessed that?! Tee Hee

      Big wags,

      Snoops :)

  11. You learn something new every day – we’ve never used coconut oil for cooking or grooming but will have to try it…

  12. We have been on the coconut oil wagon for a year now. LOVE IT! We like it mixed with some plain greek yogurt and fruit. Mom says she also likes to mix it with almonds and chocolate chips for herself. And yep, we buy the big costco jar, that’s the best price anywhere.
Note to your mom….replace half the butter in a cookie recipe with coconut oil. Yummmm

Oooh, you have it with yogurt AND fruit – you guys are living the dream!! I think my Mum would LOVE the almonds and chocolate recipe! :)

  13. I also have an awesome recipe for coconut lime chicken.

  14. I have heard that it is super good for skin allergies! A cat blogging friend bought me a jar and brought it to BlogPaws to give to me to try on Cody’s allergies. I ended up COOKING with it! lol.
I didn’t realize that dogs could eat it.
I will have to try your trick!
    Thanks for sharing Snoopy!

  15. My mom bakes with organic coconut oil too (as a replacement for fats like butter), and she uses it as a moisturizer just like your mom! It’s supposed to have some essential skin nutrients, so she replaced her commercial lotions with organic coconut oil, and she really likes it! I’ve never licked it though, but now I’ll definitely give it a try! Heehee!! ;)

    • Hey Daisy,

I would totally recommend you lick it off your Mom! Tee Hee – Who knows, maybe she’ll freeze some for you too? :)

      I hope you’re having a fun day,

      Snoops :)

  16. We love coconut oil at our house! We use it for tons of stuff. What a good idea to freeze it in little squares. I just washed one of those things and was going to freeze pumpkin in there. Maybe I’ll do half pumpkin squares, half coconut oil!
Jackie Bouchard recently posted..Is My Dog Dumb, Or Just Not as Bored as I Thought? My Profile

    • Hi Jackie,

I’ve not tried pumpkin, but I would totally recommend the coconut ice! :)

Hope Rita enjoys, I assume they’re for her rather than you! Tee Hee

      Wags to all

  17. We have heard a few bloggers mention it but we have never tried it. Maybe we will keep an eye out for some. Have a marvellous Monday.

  19. Mom needs to get shopping for some of that. I like licking any kind of moisturizer from her legs and arms, but this will actually be healthy. I don’t think Calvin Klein Eternity Body Lotion would be as good for my furs.

I have been hearing more and more about coconut oil lately, but didn’t’ even realize it was useful for both people and dogs! I try to use more and more all natural stuff for myself and for the dogs, so I think we definitely have to try it. A new treat for the dogs will make them very happy! I think I will try it on my legs and see what they think too!

Thanks for the compliment buddy! My eyes are grey/blue to match the color of my coat, if I had the black or brown variation of coat I would have brown eyes – It’s a Beardie thing! When I was a pup I had a Black and White coat, but as my eyes were blue then, they knew I would have a grey and white coat as I matured, Mum says I’m still working on my mental maturity! :) My buddy Cosmo next door has a tri-color coat (Black and White with a little brown trim), so he has brown eyes!

Hope you enjoy your coconut oil if you try it,

      Big wags,
