Monday Mischief – It it’s not Squirrels…..

Most of my day is spent on Squirrel patrol in the garden – My very important contribution to family security….. However, this week I’ve had to divide my time between the Squirrels and some new Birds that decided to hang out in the big bush in the garden!

The Birds seem to like an escort in and out of the garden, it’s a tricky job as it’s hard to predict when they want to come and go (when a Squirrel’s coming at least I get a warning from my neighbor dogs), but with these birds I have to keep alert at all times!

It’s intense work – It’s pretty hard to see them in there!

I need a better view

And down again….. it’s hard to balance on just 2 paws!

“No Mum, I’m not up to Mischief, I’m letting the Birds know I’m ready to escort them when they wanna fly off!” :)

Oooooh, nearly missed them!

Gotta be fast!

And finally a little rest time, I’ve got a good vantage point of the bush, so I’m ready to go again at a seconds notice!

And what do you think Mum was doing to help with all this?  Exactly, a whole load of nothing, she was just sitting there laughing at me!

Has anyone else been busy this week in the garden? :)

  7. I’m sure there will be plenty of mischief in our garden this week since the boys have not been in it for 20 days. There will be a lot of territory reclaiming from any critters that thought they could move in while we were away!

  8. Good job keeping those birds and squirrels on their toes, Snoopy! Sadie and I enjoyed some time in our backyard today. After all the rain lately our grass grew really tall and it kept tickling Sadie and making her jump. Guess I need to cut it soon.

  9. I was into birds as a puppy, but now I am only concerned with squirrels and wabbits. I divide my time up between the yard and my front window for critter watching. I am also lucky that Bailie has taken to the birds. She chases them around the yard all the time, so with both of us in action our security is covered.

  11. I think Mom was also snapping photos while she was laughing. I would have done the same.

All three of my dogs are on squirrel and bird patrol. But they also have to keep a watch for the mice, chipmunks, foxes, skunks, raccoons, deer–and their neighbor’s cats. It’s a tough job, but someone has to do it.

Keep up the good work, Snoopy!

  15. Great job escorting that bird. We have tons of birds, but the ones we really keep a look out for are those crazy ducks. They don’t ‘escort’ easy. Have a great day. We spent all Sunday in the garden with Mom helping with 400 million tons of woodchip mulch. BOL

  16. Squirrel patrol is hard work, and I leave it to Elka, the professional!

She blasts out the back door and right to a likely spot, sproinging a little as she goes. Sometimes she barks once or twice (squirrel) sometimes she doesn’t. Then she trots back and forth on super alert to be sure, does her business, and returns to the back door.

  19. Haha what a great series of photos! You’re doing a great job on wildlife patrol there, Snoops! I’m not allowed off-leash in the backyard because there are too many hawks just looking for little dogs like me. Plus I can sneak under the picket fence in some places. But DD runs all over the yard with me on-leash, and Mom used to too – she says she will again once she’s feeling better. We’re getting more and more birdies now that the weather is warming up, so I’m busy watching them at the bird feeder when I’m inside….picking my “chase target” for later…. ;)

  21. What kind of birds were they, Snoopy? Chickens? Geese? My Chewy chased chickens and a duck this weekend, but he does that all the time. He also chased mice and bunnies. You’d like our yard.

    P.S. Don’t work too hard.

  24. Good job keeping all of the critters away! My two are very skilled at keeping out those pesky squirrels and birds as well. I’m sorry to say that I just sit there laughing and snapping pictures as well ;) That’s a dog mom for ya!

  27. I usually try to fly with the birds in my neighborhood. It doesn’t work very well on account of no wings. I love what happens to your furs when you run, S. They get all wild and rogue from their usual perfect arrangement. It’s awesome!

  29. Squirrel patrol is an important job and it looks like you have it all under control. I bet your humans are relieved to know you are protecting the home front so well. It’s great the neigbhor dog is helping out with warning barks because it can be a big job and you need all the help you can get when dealing with those tricky squirrels.
